- Always leave your trip plan with a responsible person.
- Travel with a map, compass, and first aid kit and know how
to use them. Maps are available at Ranger District offices for $3.00.
- Water sources are unprotected, carry your own drinking
water.
- Listen to weather forecasts. Be aware of dangers caused by
storms, i.e., rockslides, trees down, slippery roads.
- Stay on the trail. Do not take shortcuts.
- Campfire permits are required and are available at Ranger
District offices. Keep campfires safe and small and follow the permit terms. Make sure
fires are DEAD OUT before leaving.
- Avoid heat exhaustion by drinking plenty of liquids and
stopping to rest frequently.
- Prevent hypothermia by avoiding over exposure to cold,
wind, and moisture.
- Wear proper clothing, including good hiking boots. Carry a
windbreaker.
- It is advisable to carry light weight, high energy food.
- Poison oak is prevalent below 3500 feet elevation.
- Remember this is tick country, bear country, and
rattlesnake county. Take necessary precautions.
- If you pack it in, please pack it out.
- Be courteous and considerate. You may be sharing the
trails with hikers, bicyclers, horseback hiders, 4-wheelers, trailbikers, fishermen,
hunters and others who enjoy the outdoors.
